Lower Division

Pre-Ballet, Ballet 1, Ballet 2, Beginner Jazz, & Studio Performance Group

Placement in the lower division is based on a combination of many factors, including age, ability, coordination, maturity, strength, cognition, and group interaction. Students often spend several years in each level as they progress and develop their skills.

Pre-Ballet

The class focuses on creative movement, musicality, basic positions, movements, and terms of classical ballet, with mat and center-based exercises to develop skills.

Students must be potty trained upon enrollment, and will not be allowed to enroll until they have reached their 3rd birthday.

Class Color: Light Pink

Class: 1 Hour, once a week

Class placement is mostly based on age:

Pre-Ballet A:  3-5 years old

Pre-Ballet B:  5+ years old 

Ballet 1

Class is structured around mat-based conditioning exercises and center-work focusing on musicality, strength, proper form, flexibility, coordination, and classical ballet terminology and movements.

Class Color: Light Blue

Class: 1 Hour, 1-2 times a week

Age Requirement: 7+

Eligible for:

Studio Performance Group (SPG)

Nutcracker Auditions (8+ years old)

Ballet 2

Students build upon their developed skills, integrating conditioning exercises with introductory barre work and expanded center-work, attending class twice a week to increase consistency.  Students attend a Demo Class (choose one), and an additional class for a total of two times a week.

Class Color: Lavender/Orchid

Class: 1.5 hours, 2 times a week

Age Requirement: 9+

Eligible for:

Studio Performance Group (SPG)

Nutcracker Auditions (8+ years old)

Beginner Jazz

Students expand their training by learning classic jazz movements, steps, and technique. Emphasis on building confidence, stage presence, musicality, coordination and rhythm.

Class: 1 hour, Once a week

Students Eligible: Ballet 1, 2, 3A

Studio Performance Group (SPG)

  • Learn and Perform a “Mini Ballet” version of a classic, full-length ballet

  • Open to All IBA students in Ballet 1-3

  • 5 Hour class, once a week

  • A wonderful introduction to performance skills for younger students

  • Excellent preparation for company-level performance for older students

  • Work together with peers as well as students at different levels

  • In-studio performance each semester with costumes, props, and simple sets for family and friends

  • Students may participate in Fall, Spring, or both

  • Learn and Perform a “Mini Ballet” version of a classic, full-length ballet

  • Class Time: Wednesday 4:30-6pm
  • In-studio Performance
    • Tickets are free but limited​(available in the office the month of the show)
    • Usually the last week of classes each semester
